Funding & Rebates

Inner West Paediatrics is registered with Medicare Australia for the Chronic Disease Management plan (formerly the Enhanced Primary Care plan) and the Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan, and is a recognised provider with many private health funds. We are also able to provide services under FaHCSIA funding including the Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) package and Better Start for Children with Disability initiative.

National Disability Insurance Scheme – NDIS

Department of Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA)

Inner West Paediatrics is registered to provide services under the Helping Children with Autism package and Better Start for Children with Disability initiative.

Helping Children with Autism Program

Children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are eligible to access up to $12,000 in funding ($6,000 per financial year) which can be used for early intervention until their 7th birthday. Children must be seen by an Autism Advisor and deemed eligible to access the program.

Better Start for Children with Disability Initiative

This initiative is for specific diagnoses such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, deafblindness, hearing and vision impairment, Fragile X syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, Williams syndrome, Angelman syndrome, Kabuki syndrome, Smith-Magenic syndrome, CHARGE syndrome, Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, Rett’s Disorder, Cri du Chat syndrome and Microcephaly. These children are able to access up to $12,000 ($6,000 per financial year) which can be used for early intervention up until their 7th birthday. Children must be seen by an Advisor and deemed eligible to access the program.

Medicare Plans

Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan (formerly Enhance Primary Care plan)

Is a Medicare plan issued by GP or Paediatrician for clients with a chronic medical condition and complex care needs. Eligible clients are able to claim a rebate for up to 5 sessions per calendar year for allied health services including Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy. Please check your eligibility with your GP or Paediatrician.

Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan

Is a Medicare plan issued by GP or Paediatrician and is an initiative aimed at providing funding to clients with a mental health disorder to allow them better access to focused psychological services including Occupational Therapy and Psychology services. This includes children diagnosed with deficits in social functioning, ADHD/ADD, behavioural problems, attention and regulation issues, anxiety, ODD, OCD and sensory processing disorder. Please check your eligibility with your GP or Paediatrician.

Medicare items under Helping Children with Autism

Children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder or pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) are able to claim rebates for up to 4 allied health assessment sessions (in total per child) and up to 20 allied health treatment sessions (in total per child); this includes use with a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist. Assessment sessions may only be provided before the age of 13 years, and treatment sessions before the age of 15 years (diagnosis must have occurred before the age of 13 years). A referral letter from a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is required. Please check your eligibility with your Paediatrician or Psychiatrist.

Medicare items under Better Start Initiative

Children eligible under the Better Start for Children with Disability initiative are able to claim rebates for up to 4 allied health assessment sessions (in total per child) and up to 20 allied health treatment sessions (in total per child); this includes use with a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist. Assessment sessions may only be provided before the age of 13 years, and treatment sessions before the age of 15 years (diagnosis must have occurred before the age of 13 years). A referral letter from a general, consultant or specialist physician is required. Please talk to your doctor to check eligibility.

Private Health Funds

Therapists at Inner West Paediatrics are registered providers with health funds for Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy services. Please check with your individual health fund regarding rebates and eligibility under your level of cover. As we have a HICAPS terminal on site, we are able to process claims immediately.
