We can support any child to access a form of communication that works for them.

We recognise that children need support with their communication and language skills for a variety of reasons. The ability to communicate is a human right. That’s why we work with any child – those simply needing extra support, with or on the path to developmental delay/difficulty, disability or neurodivergent. Our speech pathologists support children with a wide range of disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, social emotional difficulties, trauma and behavioural differences.

We use evidence-based therapy interventions to help children achieve personal speech, communication and literacy goals.

How our speech therapists can help

Our speech pathologists focus on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and intervention of speech, language, communication, voice and fluency disorders. We also work with you and your child to address challenges relating to speech sounds, reading, writing, eating, play, self-advocacy, and social participation and inclusion.

Our areas of focus

Communication and Language
+
-

We help your child improve their language skills, including vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.

AAC Assessment and Intervention
+
-

Language skills are not always spoken. That’s why we support trials of different AAC (augmentative alternative communication) devices to help non-speaking children and young people access a language system that works for them. Our speech pathologists are experienced in a range of AAC interventions and can work with you to design, trial and implement the right system for your child.

Reading and Writing
+
-

Our speech pathologists support children of all ages with their literacy skills and help them become confident learners. We can also work with your child’s classroom teacher to support their literacy development at school.

Speech Sounds
+
-

Our speech pathology services include helping your child speak more clearly so others understand them more easily for successful communication.

Play
+
-

Therapy sessions include play to engage your child’s interest and maintain their attention as they develop and strengthen new skills. It’s a low-pressure and highly stimulating learning environment that motivates your child to build speech and communication skills to thrive in everyday life.

Stuttering (Fluency)
+
-

Our therapists help your child overcome stuttering and other fluency disorders using strengths and evidence-based approaches to improve their confidence when speaking.

Social Communication and Relationships
+
-

We’re focused on supporting inclusion within the environments that are important to your child and your family. To build positive relationships in different spaces (such as school, community, park, and home), we help your child build the capacity to understand and express emotions, advocate for their needs and make friends.

Hanen Programs
+
-

The It Takes Two to Talk® program is designed for parents of children from 0 to 5 years who have been identified as having a language delay. In a small group setting, parents learn practical strategies to help their children learn language naturally throughout their day together.

The program teaches you how to:

  • Recognise your child’s stage and style of communication so you and the speech pathologist can identify next steps and goals
  • Identify what motivates your child to communicate
  • Use the strategy “Follow the Child’s Lead” to build their confidence and encourage them to communicate with you
  • Adjust everyday routines to help your child take turns back and forth in interactions
  • Talk to your child in ways that help them understand language and then use it when ready
  • Use the strategies when you play and read books with your child to help them interact and learn language

Increase fluency
Speech pathology can help your child overcome stuttering or other fluency disorders.

Enhance social communication
Speech pathology can help your child improve their ability to understand and use nonverbal communication, such as facial expressions and body language.
